European Foresters’ Orienteering
Championship ("EFOC") or in German language Europäischer
Forstlicher Orientierungs-Lauf (EFOL). Although English
is the official language of the EFOL the German abbreviation
EFOL is the official shortening of the full English title.
EFOL is an annual event for
European foresters (definition see below), which offers:
Official championships
in orienteering (individual and relay races distributed
into age classes). Further education in the form of forest
and cultural excursions. Social gathering and fruitful
relations among forest professionals and their families.
The EFOL is open for employees,
pensioners and contractors of forestry organisations – including
forestry educational and research institutions –,
for forest owners, for individuals with a forest education
and for family members of persons mentioned above and being
citizen of a European country. Registration for participation
should be channeled through the Team Leader (see below)
of the respective country. The number of participants is
not limited.
The objective of the
EFOL is:
-
Offer European foresters
an annual opportunity to gather in the summer time
and exchange and gain professional experiences.
-
Compete in orienteering – a
sport which favours the forester’s professional
capability and competence and which is performed mainly
in the foresters’ normal working environment,
the forest.
-
Safeguard, that sufficient
consideration has been taken to the environment in
the respective competition and training areas.
-
Safeguard, that an
acknowledged national forest institution governs the
arrangements in view of financial and organisational
responsibilities.
-
Safeguard a close
co-operation with and to follow the advice of the International
Committee (IC) of the EFOL (see below).
Since the start of the EFOL
in year 1994 the determined strategy for the event has
emphasised on growth in number of participating foresters
and countries. At the same time quality demands on the
arrangements have been increased in order to facilitate
the growth development.
Strategic goal to maintain the circulation of the event among
different parts of Europe, which has since then been successfully
continued.
The EFOL organisation
is at present governed by the elected International Committee
(IC) consisting of the President and three further members.
The official annual meeting of the Team Leaders, organised
on the last evening of each EFOL-event, elects the members
of the IC for a 3-years’ period.
The work of the EFOL and its IC is guided by the statutes of
EFOL. The IC EFOL has its registered seat in Sweden.
The Team Leaders’ meeting approves and appoints each EFOL
organiser after a tendering procedure.
The EFOL championships are organised according to the competition
rules of IOF, the International Orienteering Federation.
