The EFOL is open for employees, pensioners and contractors of forestry organisations – including forestry educational and research institutions –, for forest owners, for individuals with a forestry education and for family members of persons mentioned above and for European citizens.

The Organizer reserves the rights to merge classes with few participants.

In the relay the W/M12, W/M14, W16, W45, W55, W/M65 and open categories run only with two legs, and both of the legs run twice, two different round. The other categories run with three legs, as normally.

Prizes:

In every classes places 1-3 get medals, and places 1-6 get a certificate. In the Open classes anybody can feel free to join the competition, but we do not offer medals and champion titles. (Recommended for beginners and family members.) Other prizes according the OC possibilities will be available.

Competition area:

Park orienteering:

Eger, Ersekkert (Archbishop garden), 35 km from Szilvasvarad. Small park, city streets.

Classic, relay and model event:

Bukk-plateau, Olaszkapu (Italian gate), 12 km from Szilvasvarad. Broadleaved forest covered karsts plateau, the sides of the plateau with rolling rocks and stones.

Maps:

Park orienteering: M 1: 5000 / cont. 2,5m. Issued 2004.

Classic: M 1:15000 and M 1:10 000 for seniors / cont. 5m. Issued 2004.

Relay: M 1:10000 / cont. 5m. Issued 2004.

Maps will be provided after the start signal.

Electronic Punching System:

Sportident electronic punching system will be used. Please, if you have your own, fill your E-card's identification number in the Application Form. Competitors without E-card have to rent from the Organizer. The deposit is 30 euro , which will be paid back after returning E-card.

Between the park orienteering, and the opening ceremony we will offer showering possibilities near to the finish area. The procession starts for the Liceum.

Accommodation:

The village of Szilvasvarad offers a plenty of different accommodation possibilities. We offer the following categories. If you want to use your own tent or caravan, please contact us beforehand.

A cat.

Hotel ***

The highest level of services in Szilvasvarad. Usually double rooms, but some rooms for three or four are available too. All the rooms have separate shower and toilet. Some of them equipped with French beds. Parking place are available for the guests. Breakfast included. Price: 6800 HUF/pers./night

B cat.

Pension or apartment with breakfast

Comfortable rooms for two to four. Some of the rooms have separate shower and toilet. Breakfast included. Parking place available. Price: 5000 HUF/pers./night

C cat.

Pension or apartment without breakfast

Middle class. Rooms for two to four. Shared shower and toilet for 6-8 person, parking place. Cooking facilities are available. Price: 2600 HUF/pers./night

D cat.

Camping

Houses with rooms for 3-10 (usually for six) with storey beds, shared shower and toilet for 10-20 persons. Possible to order meals. Full pension costs about 2000 HUF/pers/day. Please inform us, if you want to order some meals, we have to arrange it several weeks in advance. Outdoor cooking facilities, and parking place are available.

Price: 1600 HUF/pers./night

All the accommodation possibilities are not more then 2 km away from the competition centre. We distribute the rooms according the registrations. If you order later, we can offer just the remaining accommodation possibilities. If one of the categories runs out, you forced to take a less comfortable or more expensive accommodation.

Excursions:

We offer several excursions in the region. English and German interpreters are provided. The excursions start only in a case of sufficient number of participants. We inform your group leader about any possible cancellations of excursions in advance via e-mail, or in another way.

Excursion A

National Park Aggtelek

During the guided walk at Josvafo you can learn the traditional architecture and the history of the village, the traditional farming and life form of the local people. On the territory of National Park lives a hucul stud with a purpose of gene reservation. The hucul is a small kind of horses, which was typical in the Carpatean mountains and its reminding of the hoses of Eurasian plains. On lands of the village living some of those horses.

Lunch at the restaurant Tengerszem.

Short tour in the Aggtelek cave, which is since 1995 part of the Unesco World Heritage, and famous after its stalagmite forms.

Fee: 6000 HUF/pers.


Excursion B

Tisza Lake

Bird watching in the bird reserve Pely, at the Tisza flood plain. Along the diverse habitats around Pely (forests, brushes, swamps and meadows) are the nesting and feeding territory of a numerous rare and protected bird species.Private forest management on the flood plain within the boundaries of the National Park Hortobagy.

Lunch

With the electricity producing purpose established artificial Tisza lake the second greatest lake in Hungary. The large bays, islands, abandoned meanders, the shallow water and the forests, scrubs and water plants on the shore making the territory for lots of animals, especially fishes and birds comfortable. Boot trip and bird watching on the southern part of the lake.

Excursion C

Trip around the Matra hill

Visiting the cultural memories of south Matra, the medieval temples of Tarnaszentmaria and Feldebro, the castle and historical museum in Kisnana.

Results of forestry recultivation after the surface coal mining of Matrai Eromu Rt. share holding company.

Wine taste in the cellars of Abasar.

Introducing the Vadas Jeno forestry and game management secondary school. The present situation of the Hungarian forestry and game management training.

Lunch in the Vadas Jeno secondary school.

The methods of close to nature forest utilisation in the oak and beech forests of Egererdo Rt., Matrafured forestry unit.

Visiting the chariot museum in Parad.

Excursion D

Bukk Plateau

Hiking on the Bukk plateau in the heart of National Park Bukk. On the Nagymezo lives a famous Lipicai stud. This kind of grey horses originating from the territory of the present Slovenia. During the walk meeting with different kinds of karst forms, like the Kis-kohat depression.

Lunch in the Feher Sas restaurant, Bankut.

Trip along the “stones” on the edge of the plateau. Excellent point of view to the southern valleys of Bukk hill. Visit a “primeval” beech forest, which is probably untouched at least 100 years ago.

Results of the cooperation of forest management and nature protection. The methods of exploitation and forest regeneration on a protected area.

Excursion E

The historical town of Eger, and its cellars

Sightseeing in the baroque inner city of Eger. The town was 1000 years long the seat of a bishop, and since 1804 is the seat of the archbishop. The Bazilika is the third biggest temple of Hungary, and naturally there are a plenty other temples in the city.

After more then one hundred years of Turkish rulership several memories remain after the Turks. The most famous is the Minaret, which is the most northern appearance of such kind building.

The castle of Eger has several museums, and the tunnels under the castle are really fascinating.

Lunch in the restaurant Dorner.

Visit the famous vine cellars of Szepasszony valley, wine taste.

Public bus and train transportation between the two settlements is provided. On the day of Park Orienteering, and Opening Ceremony the OC will organize transport busses to Eger and back.

The travel lasts about 65 minutes long.

Szilvasvarad – Bukk plateau:

A narrow forest road leads up to the plateau, to the place of model event, classic and relay orienteering championship. Bus traffic needs a leading car for security reasons on this route. Groups can use their own vehicles, and the OC will provide busses.

Arriving possibilities:

By plane to Budapest. To Szilvasvarad you can travel over Eger by train or bus (3-4 hour).

The organizing committee will offer transport busses between Budapest - Szilvasvarad, Szilvasvarad - Eger and back for extra payment. If you want to use this transport possibility, please mark on the Application Form.

If you come by your own bus, please pay attention, that your bus must not be higher than 3,8 m, because between Szilvasvarad and Eger is a train bridge, and the route is available only for smaller vehicles.

If you need a hired bus for the whole event, please contact Zoltan Vajda.

Visa:

Citizens of the following countries need a visa to enter Hungary in 2004: Albania, Byelorussia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro, Russia and Ukraine. Competitors from those countries please contact with Zoltan Vajda, who will help you to get a visa.

Insurance:

The Organizers do not bear responsibility for any damage to health or property. All participants should have their own insurance. The responsibility for under age people is taken on their proposers.

Please show on your money transfer order, for which persons and for what services did you paid, and don't forget add the bank costs to your fees. The OC can respect the money transfers just until 15 th of June. Please after this date choose the payment by cash in the Competition centre on your arrival.

In the case of good cause is it possible to ask the organizers for reducing registration fee. If you want to do this, please send your request to the organizers, if is it possible together with the application form. The request should be contain the names of the competitors who need the reduction and the exact reasons of reducing fees. The organizers will inform you in 30 days about the decision.

All the registered participants of the competition allowed use freely the narrow gauge railway and enter freely in the forestry museum in the Szalajka valley, Szilvasvarad during the entire event.

The payment of your costs in the Competition centre is allowed only in Hungarian Forint (HUF). The competition centre cannot take any euro or other foreign currency to cover your costs.
